     BROOKLYN SONGWRITERS EXCHANGE

Check out our feature in the NY Times!

The Brooklyn Songwriters Exchange is a monthly music series. Our mission is to create a supportive and rewarding environment for songwriters. We showcase the best in local talent plus the occasional touring artist. Our shows are FREE TO ATTEND. No cover charge, no drink minimum. Just an open venue to see great songwriters. We pass the hat and hope you can give generously to our artists.

The BSX was founded by Brooklyn native and songwriter Rebecca Pronsky in the fall of 2005 to encourage community and support among songwriters in the borough of Brooklyn and around New York City. The original home for the series was Vox Pop and the series ran there for 15 months after which it moved to the Brooklyn Lyceum and ran weekly every Sunday in 2007. In 2008, Rebecca brought the BSX to Union Hall where it ran monthly for three years thanks to funding from ASCAP. After five years of hosting, promoting, and booking the series, Rebecca has handed over the reins to local NYC acoustic music mainstays Jason Crosby and Megan Palmer. Together they will co-host the series in 2011. The series will also move to Williamsburg under Jason and Megan's direction, and will continue to happen on a monthly basis. Shows will remain free to attend.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING ABOUT THE BSX:

"A cozy evening of song-sharing with a few hand picked, able locals."
- TimeOut NY

"The evening is a way to tap into the legions of local musicians, singers and songwriters... as well talented musicians from outside the city [in] a comfortable, small venue." - NY Daily News

"As the Irish folk singer Frank Harte once said, 'Those in power write the history, while those who suffer write the songs.' In Brooklyn, at least, they don’t have to suffer alone... At the Brooklyn Songwriters Exchange, a free monthly series for aspiring and established songwriters, they can air original work for eager, empathetic ears... Ms. Pronsky has worked to imbue the series with a small-town, all-inclusive energy." - NY Times

"Promoting local talent for the last five years... culls from the borough’s burgeoning and established crop of singer-songwriters."
- NY Post

"Discover the best emerging songwriters in the borough in an intimate and historic setting." - Brooklyn Courier

"Brooklyn Songwriters Exchange continues to shine at Union Hall [with] an innovative program. The downstairs music room provides great acoustics and a nice set-up away from the ever-popular bocce ball mania upstairs. The Exchange is a great way to become more involved in the local music scene. It is an inviting atmosphere where music fans and local independent musicians alike can come together and be exposed to the latest in folk/pop music influenced, of course, by the Brooklyn scene." - Examiner.com

"This is your chance to discover talented new artists before they hit the mainstream. The BSX, which just celebrated its five-year anniversary, provides a warm, friendly environment for music lovers to mingle and support local independent artists." - BeaconPass.com

"A great way to find new local songwriters or just hang out and enjoy some music in a casual, intimate atmosphere." - NYCgo.com
